Less than a month after schools in rural North Carolina areas were faced with the impact of lack of access to high-speed internet in the face of new virtual learning guidelines, the state is providing solutions.

In a recent post I highlighted the dilemma folks in rural areas around North Carolina (and I’m sure nationwide) faced as schools and business shift to virtual models. Many of them have no access to high-speed internet, so virtual learning was almost an impossibility. Less than a month after this conundrum was raised, the state has listened (I’m sure to luminaries much greater than I). Their stated mission is “to help students learning remotely in the age of the coronavirus.”

As part of Rural Broadband Week, the Governor has pledged more than $12 million in grants for more high-speed internet in some 11 rural counties.
