DesignHammer Sponsors George Thorogood Performance at The Carolina Theatre

March 19, 2010

George Thorogood and the DestroyersDurham, NC - Appearing this Tuesday, March 23rd, George Thorogood & the Destroyers will be performing at the Carolina Theatre in Durham, sponsored by DesignHammer. The Destroyers, led by Thorogood, are best known for their early 80’s hit “Bad to the Bone,” have had a prolific career releasing 20 albums, 5 of which are now Gold.

George Thorogood and the Destroyers emerged out of Delaware in the early 1970’s entertaining audiences with their signature blues-rock sound. The band includes original members George Thorogood (lead vocals), Billy Blough (bass guitar), Jeff Simon (drums, percussion) as well as newer members Buddy Leach (saxophone), and Jim Suhler (rhythm guitar) who joined the band in the past decade. They are now touring again with music from their new 2009 album, The Dirty Dozen, which features six new songs and six classic fan favorites.

The Carolina Theatre is one stop on their rigorous three-month tour throughout the United States and Canada this spring with very few off days between performances. The band has mastered some touring feats in the past 35 years, including a 50 state in 50 days tour in the early 80’s.

Thorogood fans should expect to hear a great assortment of classics with plenty of fan favorites. In a recent interview with LiveDaily, George talked about his theory for picking the band’s musical set, “You go out and play the song and if nobody claps, it’s out. Everybody applauds, you keep it in the show. It’s a very simple process. We have always selected material 100 percent for entertainment purposes. We happen to like all the songs we record, but (on stage) these are the ones people pay money for. It’s a very conscious decision.”

There was great incentive for DesignHammer to sponsor this event at the Carolina Theatre as Partner, Robert Weeks, has a great appreciation for Thorogood’s career and musical technique. “Musical trends have come and gone but George Thorogood has remained true to his roots and to the long line of blues players who have gone before him, taking what they’ve done and pushing it one step further by adding his own unique vision to the blues.”

Weeks added, “As a guitarist, I’ve spent years in search of the perfect tone. George Thorogood is a master of tone. Plus anyone who has ever played pool with Bo Diddley (in a music video no less) is totally cool in my book.”

George Thorogood and the Destoyers will be appearing at The Carolina Theatre for one performance on March 23rd. Ticket prices start at $34 with an option for VIP ticket holders to have access to the band’s sound check prior to the 7:30pm concert. For tickets to the show, visit The Carolina Theatre website.
