For those located near DesignHammer, in central North Carolina, some big news is Raleigh will host the 19th International World Wide Web Conference (WWW2010). The conference is scheduled for April 26-30, 2010 at the newly constructed Raleigh Convention Center.
The conference, organized by the International World Wide Web Steering Committee (IW3C2) based in Geneva, Switzerland, is one of the premiere conferences covered all aspects of the World Wide Web, as well as related rsearch.
The local host organization launched the initial conference website this month, documenting the process so far, from the solicitation in May, 2008, through the official signing in December, 2008, though the planning currently going on.
According to the conference website:
“The World Wide Web Conference is a yearly international conference on the topic of the future direction of the World Wide Web. It began in 1994 at CERN and is organized by the International World Wide Web Conferences Steering Committee (IW3C2). The Conference aims to provide the world a premier forum for discussion and debate about the evolution of the Web, the standardization of its associated technologies, and the impact of those technologies on society and culture. The conference brings together researchers, developers, users and commercial ventures—indeed all those who are passionate about the Web and what it has to offer. WWW2010 will focus on ‘openness’ in web technologies, standards and practices, and will showcase the best of the region’s technology and culture.”
Among the local principal organizers, and one of the driving forces behind Raleigh’s successful bid for the conference is Paul Jones, director of iBiblio.org at the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill.
According to the conference website, event registration details will be posted in May, 2009. The 2009 conference will be held April 20–24 in Madrid, Spain. Prices for the 2009 conference range from 210 to 560 Euros (for Early registration).
