January 28, 2014

Stephen PashbyAs a go-to person for help at DesignHammer, Stephen Pashby bridges many of the diverse aspects of the firm’s business.

As a member of the Durham Jaycees, Pashby was recently recognized as the go-to person for help with activities.

During the Jaycee’s annual awards meeting, Pashby was honored with the SPOKE Award for his involvement with the Jaycees and his commitment to the Durham community.

“The SPOKE award goes to a newer Jaycee who has acted like the spoke of a wheel,” said Catherine Thomas, 2014 president of the Durham Jaycees.

“As a spoke extends from the center to support the rim of the wheel, the SPOKE winner is an integral part of the organization,” she said, adding that the award honors those who work constantly and consistently, almost behind the scenes, to support the organization as a whole.

Thomas said the board voted on him winning this award unanimously.

“Stephen has been very dependable and always willing to assist when needed no matter how unpleasant the starting time might be, especially if it’s really early or late,” Thomas said.

Pashby, a member of the chapter since July 2012, joins several other young professionals who are dedicated to leadership development through community service.

“Being a Jaycee has helped me connect with my community through service and to connect with fellow Durham professionals,” Pashby said.

The Durham chapter has raised money for community organizations since 1938 through community service, leadership and individual development.

In addition to volunteering for several area events, such as the Great Human Race, and supporting organizations such as the Durham Arts Council and N.C. Jaycee Burn Center, the Durham chapter organizes and hosts several events throughout the year.

With events like a haunted house and casino night, the Durham chapter connects to various community members in ways that are fun for both guests and Jaycees volunteers.

Pashby named his favorite service project as Project Graduation casino night, where Jaycees volunteer to run casino games for local high school graduates.

“It’s a really fun way to help them to celebrate their high school graduate in a safe, alcohol-free environment,” Pashby said.

DesignHammer is proud of this honor and looks forward to Stephen’s future accomplishments with the Jaycees.
